Baggage—Part 7
1 Samuel 13, 15
October 13, 2013

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10

1. BEING A PEOPLE PLEASER IS FUTILE.

Reason #1: People Want Different Things.

Reason #2: People Want Opposite Things.

Reason #3: People Want Wrong Things.

Reason #4: People Want More Things. Prov. 27:20

2. BEING A PEOPLE PLEASER IS FOOLISH.
“What have you done?” asked Samuel.  Saul replied, ‘When I saw
that the men were scattering, and that you did not come at the set
time, and that the Philistines were assembling at Mikmash, I
thought, ‘Now the Philistines will come down against me at
Gilgal, and I have not sought the Lord’s favor.’ So I felt
compelled to offer the burnt offering.’ ‘You have done a foolish
thing,’ Samuel said. ‘You have not kept the command the Lord
your God gave you…Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned. I
violated the Lord’s command and your instructions. I was afraid
of the men and so I gave in to them.” 1 Sam. 13:11-13a, 15:24

“And without faith it is impossible to please God…” Heb. 11:6a

3. BEING A PEOPLE PLEASER IS FATAL.
“‘…if you had, he would have established your kingdom over
Israel for all time. But now your kingdom will not endure…’”
1 Samuel 13:13b-14a

“We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our
      hearts.” 1 Thessalonians 2:4
