Salvation

Salvation
Are you saved?  Are you sure you will go to Heaven when you die?  In John 3:16, Jesus explains to Nicodemus the purpose of salvation, the plan of salvation, the path to salvation, and the promise of salvation:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

The Purpose of Salvation: GOD LOVES
God loves you and God wants to bring lost, sinful people into fellowship and relationship with him.

“‘For God so loved the world…’”  John 3:16

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God…”
1 Peter 3:18a

“…For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Matthew 9:13b

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10

The Plan of Salvation: GOD GAVE
God loves us so much that he sent his Son Jesus Christ into the world to die on the cross, to be buried, and to be resurrected so that we could be reconciled to God.

“‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son…” John 3:16

“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.’”
Luke 2:10-11

The Path to Salvation: WE BELIEVE
Salvation is not a matter of being good enough or being a church member.  We cannot buy, borrow, beg, bargain, bully, build, or bribe our way into heaven.  We must repent of our sin by turning from our sin and turning to Jesus Christ.  We must place our faith in Jesus Christ by trusting him and Him alone for salvation.

“‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him…” John 3:16

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”  John 14:6

In the Book of Romans, the Apostle Paul gives us the path to salvation.  Collectively, these passages are known as “Romans Road.”

Step #1: You Must Realize That You Are A Sinner.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.” 1 John 1:8

Step #2: You Must Realize The Consequences Of Sin.

“For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23a

“But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” Isaiah 59:2

Step #3: You Must Realize That Jesus Loves You And That He Died On The Cross For You.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8

“(Jesus) is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”
1 John 2:2

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” 1 Peter 3:18

“so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many…” Hebrews 9:28

Step #4: You Must Personally Place Your Faith And Trust In Jesus Christ To Be Saved.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

“for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” Romans 10:13

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

The Promise of Salvation: WE RECEIVE
There is no one too good that he does not need to be saved and there is no one too bad that he cannot be saved.  God’s offer of salvation is to everyone, but only those who accept it by placing their faith and trust in Jesus Christ will receive salvation and eternal life.

“‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ John 3:16

“And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” Acts 2:21
