“As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me,’ he told him…” Matthew 9:9b

1. THE REACTION TO HEARING THESE WORDS.
    “As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting
     at the tax collector’s booth…” Matthew 9:9a

2. THE REALITY OF OBEYING THESE WORDS.
    “After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of
     Levi sitting at his tax booth. ‘Follow me,’ Jesus said to him, and
     Levi got up, left everything and followed him.” Luke 5:27-28

3. THE RESPONSE TO ACCEPTING THESE WORDS.
    “Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large
     crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them.” Lk. 5:29

4. THE REASON FOR SAYING THESE WORDS.
    “On hearing this, Jesus said, ‘It is not the healthy who need a
     doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire
     mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but
     sinners.” Matthew 9:12-13

    “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give
     you rest.” Matthew 11:28

    “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10

5. THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR SHARING THESE WORDS.
    “‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of
     men.’” Matthew 4:19

    “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in
     the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and
     teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And
     surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
